Right after Roger Rabbit is shown the patty-cake pictures he has a tantrum and bolts out of the room, leaving a cute little Roger Rabbit shaped hole in the window. Valiant catches Jessica Rabbit having an extramarital affair-in the form of a clandestine game of patty-cake, but this is serious business for ‘toons-with an eccentric human, Marvin Acme (Stubby Kaye), the Gag King. Maroon (Alan Tilvern) to spy on his star Roger Rabbit’s (voiced by Charles Fleischer) curvaceous wife, Jessica (voiced by Kathleen Turner). He is hired by cartoon studio executive R. A washed-up detective, Eddie Valiant (Bob Hoskins), who used to specialize in ‘toon cases before his brother was killed by a ‘toon, scrounges for work in 1947 Hollywood as a private dick.

The plot of the movie was fairly straightforward. “Work’s been kinda slow since cartoons went to color.” Saddest line of the movie. Originally published for net.sideBar on Sept. Finally they use the carcass as a shield against the pygmies’ arrows before the elephants show up to trample their village. Before Tarzan shows up to graphically gouge apart the ape’s face with his knife, the monstrous primate repeatedly smashes Cheeta (the Chimpanzee sidekick) against a rock-the image of the big faux-ape swinging the smaller doll ape around still haunts me. The surviving explorers and their porters are captured by a tribe of scary pygmies who sacrifice them to a man in a giant sloppy gorilla suit. For starters, if memory serves, a pack of territorial hippos capsize the explorers’ rafts and then crocodiles get a bunch of the guys. Never mind the animal cruelty, racism, and the fact that Tarzan is pretty much a rapist who gets lucky when his captive lady gets Stockholm syndrome. A lot of the Johnny Weismuller Tarzan movies blend together for me and most of them had scary finales where everyone is captured, tortured, or horrifically killed by politically incorrect tribal guys.
